BAD: No more Google Reader

This last week it was announced Google Reader would be shutting down by July 1st. As someone who started using readers late in the game, this is a big disappointment. I've been researching alternate readers, and so far, the only ones that I'm leaning towards (for ease of use, and functionality) come with a cost. It seems though that given the time it saves me trying to remember all the blogs I want to catch up on, that a $30 fee would be worth it, right?

It's funny though that I only decided to use a reader about 2 months ago. My husband had mentioned it to me years ago, but of course I thought it was unnecessary considering I had all my favorite blogs already bookmarked, and generally I only went to a few news sights each day if that. But now that I've started using it...I have to admit I'm addicted. I now spend a good 1/2 hour each morning reading up about art, design, fashion...and of course any mommy related news (ie. crafts, kid's lunches, and toys). I have to admit it can sometimes feel like a time-sucker...when I think about all the important things I have to actually do.

So perhaps the shutdown of Google Reader is NOT a bad thing after all...but maybe a good thing? At least for me. Perhaps cometh July 1st, I just won't get another reader, and will be forced to only occasionally read my blogs when I truly have downtime. It will no longer be a daily requirement to read  every new posting that appears. Hopefully this will give me more time to do the things I really should be doing?
